The blue umbrella by Ruskin bond.

A very happy new year folks!

We all deserve a pat on the back for having survived a year that tested us in many ways. So kudos to us to have made it to this year. With the hopes for a better year let me get started on my first post of 2021.

Do you like Ruskin Bond's books?. I absolutely love his books. Also, are you a nature lover?. If yes , then his books are like a warm embrace.

I have read two of his short story collections, that is 'The night train at Deoli' and 'Our trees still grow in Dehra'. Both of them are simple stories about the lives of people living in the Himalayan foothills. Mr.Bond himself resided in Mussoorie for a large part of his life and hence through his writings he has brought to life everything he has seen, I believe.

The blue umbrella is no different. Its a very cute and heartwarming story about kindness, forgiveness and how childhood comes with a sweetness that gets eroded with age .

The story is about Binya, a resident of village in Himalayas, who gets a blue umbrella from a bunch of tourists who visit the place.

She got it in exchange for one of her possessions because she was utterly fascinated by it.

The rest of the story is about how the umbrella becomes an object of fascination for everyone in the village. And Binya holds it dearer than her life. So will she be able to keep it?. There are people who try to get it from her but couldn't. Read the book to know about it.

An object as simple as an umbrella, is used by the author to pull off a story to bring about the beauty in the goodness of people. I believe that is the hallmark of all his stories.

And the role, nature plays in this story makes the read even more worthwhile . Like to be enclosed by tall trees with tunes from the rustling of leaves or a cry of bulbul.

There is a movie based on the book which is available in Netflix. And I am yet to watch it.
