Rekha- The untold story
Rekha has been a figure of absolute enigma. Always wanted to know the person behind those intense eyes. Hence I was quick to grab this when Jaggernaut made it available for free during this lockdown.
This book makes for an enticing, devourable read. Yasser usman's writing is compelling and it seamlessly slides through. The chapter titles easily catches your eye.
Rekha's story is quite inspiring. Hailing from South India, not knowing Hindi, ridiculed for her accent and being a victim of body shaming, Rekha fought tooth and nail to carve her niche in Bollywood.
From her lost childhood to her transition from a heroine to actress, everything is written taking references from authors interaction with members from family or film fraternity.
And as you get to the end of the book you get goosebumps. Well ,such is her journey. With hardwork, grit, talent and determination she speaks it out loud- "You can ignore me but you can't deny me".
Love the way she flaunts her saree and red bindi with panache. She retained her identity in a world that tried every bit to turn her into someone she isn't in its own brutal ways.
Thanks to Jaggernaut for making this as well as many other titles free during a time like this.
