Its all about Treo

How cute is Treo?. It's that innocent face and those prompting eyes that made me pick up this book. Also the book is based on an incredible true story.

Treo and Dave have just taken over as the Arms explosive search dog team in Sangin, Afghanistan. Being a veteran its Dave's responsibility to prepare dog teams . Most of the dog handlers were combat virgins.Seven AES teams cover the entire British effort in Afghanistan.

Treo is like a son to Dave. Err, let me correct that, Treo is a son to Dave. There is just so much love, trust and respect they share. They speak in unspoken ways.

Treo is a gifted dog but I felt his abilities were put to best use only because of Dave. Dave is aware, understands and trusts every little nuance in Treo's expression.

The book gave me some heart racing moments when these two went on patrol, with treo keeping his each paw not knowing if there could be explosives underneath. You can really feel their stress and you will be transported to a war zone starting each day not knowing if you would return in one piece.

The book gives an insight into the "working dog" world. They are designated based on the work they do. That is based on whether they sniff bombs/corpses/detects a live threat. They all are trained differently and unless it calls for a dire situation , their roles shouldn't be mixed.

The writing is simple though I am not sure if I should say this but in a lot of places I got stumbled re-reading sentences to understand if that's a correct sentence. But the subject of the book outweighs that.

Wanna know the best part of the book?. For me, its those lines in italics thats actually Treo's thoughts deciphered to us by Dave. Like a toddler who is exhilarated when it gets a new toy, I rejoiced those lines the same way.

Dive into this book if you want to know more about Dave and this professional cladded in shining black satin with sparkling eyes as they fight for survival in one of the most dangerous war zones, unearthing explosives and conquering situations where everything they are is put to test. It's tear-jerking, overwhelming, all at the same time. Dog lover or not this makes for a pawsome read.
