Born a crime

Read this book few years ago but what has stayed with me is the reading experience.

For me this book goes beyond racism. It has taught me the power of faith through a boisterous ,feisty soul that is Trevor's mother. I picked up this book for Trevor but ended up adoring his mother.

Trevor deserves credit for presenting his story wrapped up with humour and brutal honesty. He sets the ball rolling right from the beginning making us fall about laughing when he talks about him running to escape "ass kicking" from his mother.

Another lesson I learnt from his mom is that education to a lot extent is immaterial when it comes to your performance in life.

How to gracefully handle adversities cannot be schooled. At times she might come across as somebody who is reckless but then who are we to judge?.

She meant to be really harsh with Trevor because if she doesn't ,the world would do it. And she always wanted to be his first hand experience. Having watched a lot of daily shows gave me the edge to literally hear the lines spoken from the book to me in Trevor's voice. Would have loved to reread this had my tbr pile not been staring at me.🙄.

I just wish the book had pictures of them. His journey, from being just another colored kid somewhere in South Africa to a comedian the world recognises ,is incredible.

To many more years filled with gigs and laughter. 🍾
