Book Review- An unwanted guest by Shari Lapena
Imagine a weekend getaway turning into your worst nightmare. Guests arrive at Mitchell's Inn hotel for a weekend getaway. There are three couples, two girls,a criminal attorney and a writer. Tension starts brewing when one of them gets murdered. The storm and ice cuts off the phone lines which makes them unable to call the police. The guests are left to stay right there beside the body to wonder and ponder who might have done this. The murder is a distraction for some who are overburdened with their personal problems ,while others just struggle to pass each second and get over the weekend soon enough to get back to their normal lives.
Apart from the guests, there is also the hotel owner and his son who are mandated to help the guests with food and courtesies as usual. The guests start suspecting each other as there doesn't seem to be an intruder.Based on the character analysis of each one, you also put on your detective hat and make conclusions in your head. This is my second book of Shari Lapena after "the couple next door". Her writings are just amazingly simple yet it sucks you in and gives you chills. This combined with a compelling plot will make you want to finish her books in one sitting. With this book ,I felt it built a lot of suspense and everything ended abruptly. Also the premise being an isolated hotel is cliched.Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed getting soaked in the turmoil for a brief period. Recommended for thriller addicts.
